My professional design career started when I became obsessed with Apple's design language in the early 2000s. I fell in love with the OS X interface and quickly discovered a community of like-minded designers.
Shortly after making my first icons and UI themes, I needed a website to showcase my work, which led me to pick up Jeffrey Zeldman’s book “Designing with Web Standards” to teach myself web design & front-end development.
Armed with Photoshop and a text editor, I later launched a freelance web design business to support myself through university. After graduation, I joined my frist design agency, Blue Flavor, an experience that paved the way to a key product design role at Ancestry.
The 2007 iPhone announcement and subsequent 2008 release of its SDK changed my world, offering me the opportunity to combine my love of product design and Apple's hardware. I relocated to San Francisco and spent the next 4 years leading Ancestry's first mobile team, building their inaugural iPhone app.
During my tenure at Ancestry, I also created Droplr, a native OS X tool that simplified screenshot sharing among designers and developers. What began as a side project evolved into a full-time, funded startup, culminating in its acquisition by TDV in 2015.
Following Droplr's exit, I've held various design leadership roles at both agencies and product companies, including Black Pixel and Hypergiant, where I led and worked alongside incredible teams to design many incredibly fun, impactful products. I currently lead the product design team at Medable, where we are building the next generation of decentralized clinical trial solutions.
